Default Serious trouble with Transmission 95 Pls help

I just drove in from about a 30 minute drive and just when I got home before parking my transmission light started flashing and then I couldn't put it into drive it wouldn't go forward but only reverse I havent tride overdrive or anything. Does this mean it definetly went out. I checked the fluid level and that looks accurate. Is it possible that it can be driven in town on short trips to work I am not in a position to address this now and need to get to work for a while longer.

How did you check the fluid level? My 96 has no dipstick. I have to drive car up on 4 wheel ramps. Then with engine running in neutral, remove the fill plug on the pan. And if no fluid comes out, I then have to use a hand pump to force oil into the trans till it starts coming back out, then quickly put the plug back in.

It can not be checked with engine off.

I have had the same problem with my 1994 Isuzu Trooper. My issue is the gear position sensor (not sure if that is the correct terminology). The sensor is on the outside of the transmission from what I was told. I'm having trouble finding a new sensor, however, If I turn the engine off and start it again the blinking transmission light goes out and it shifts fine. It seems to reset the sensor. Hope you got yours figured out. I've been driving mine with the bad sensor for over a year.

That's the range selector switch. I had to replace it on my 2000 Trooper years ago.

Since it's a GM transmission (4L30E in mine) you may be able to get it thru any GM type dealer.

You also may be able to take it apart and clean it. I tried that but mine was too far gone.

Attached is a pdf how-to.
