so i have a 98 rodeo and have a problem or two i need help with. 1st, my check engine light comes off and on all the time. the code always says its the egr valve but ive already replaced that and cleaned it. problem #2 is my tranny. i had it rebuilt about a year and a half ago but now, on occasion, when i start it i cant push the button on the shifter to put it into gear. is that even a tranny problem or could it be something else. yes, i am pushing the brake pedal when trying to put it into gear(my husband had the nerve to ask) anyone have any ideas!!!

 

how did you clean it,to properly clean it on that yr you need to remove the t-body,an you,ll see a tube right in ft,its proably clogged.thats why it keep setting the code.an you dont have a trans problem. the shift interlock cable is mis adjusted.this is how an why you suppose to step on the brake to shift out of park,you may even need a new shifter asssembly if it cant be adjusted.if there,s spill drinks ,ciggerate ashes any kinda dirt,can harm this adj,take it to your dealer,theres a service bulletin they use to dothat adj procedure,any other shop wont know what to do.
