Hello everyone!

My 1998 Rodeo has the Check Engine Light on, I ran a scan and found out that it was the EGR, so I replaced the EGR but the Check Engine Light is still on. I have been told that I need to clean it.

What my question is what part of the EGR do Ineed to clean?

Any help would be greatly appricated!

Thanks

REMOVE THE THROTTLE BODY,AN YOU,LL SEE A TUBE RIGHT IN FT.USE CARB CLEANER AN A COAT HANGER,OR I SMALL PIPE CLEANER WORKS BEST AN CLEAN ALL THE CARBON OUT OF THE HOLE.THE CHECK ENEGINE LIGHT STAYS ON FOR A EGR INSUFFICENT CODE,BECAUSE THAT TUBE IS CLOGGED WITH CARBON...ITS EASY TO CLEAN OUT.AN YOUR PROBLEM WELL BE FIXED

Ok I finally had time to remove the throttle body and clean out the tube. And sure enough that tube was clogged like a mother.... I finally got all the carboncleaned out. After about an 1 hour laterI put the throttle body back and BOOM no more Check Engine Light! After a year with that DAMN light on it feels great to get it off!!! And the dealer was going to charge me $120.00 for the service.

I have to thank you for the post. It helped me. I too could not even see the tube until I loaded the t-body up with cleaner. Hard to believe that little tube could hold so much carbon. Thanks again. Any other prev maint ideas for a 98 rodeo?

about 1/2 can of seafoam engine treatment in the oil and run for about 20 minutes right before an oil change is always good preventative maintenance. It will help keep the oil return holes in the pistons from clogging up and making it burn oil.

Its a problem with the site, nothing dangerous. If you turn off the option to notify you by email when there is a reply to your post (in the site settings) the links wont show up. Thats what I did anyway.

For future reference HERE is some info on cleaning the EGR system.Edited by: Gizmo42
