Help!!

Look I have a 1996 Trooper LS 4x4 belonging to my son and the trans went. I have two 4l30E both used and bought from auto yards. Neither one has a check ball in the Auxiliary valve body section as the repair manuals claim there should be? Since they are used I cant say if they have been opened before. I was going to clean and place new gaskets filters and solenoids in before installing when I noticed the issue with the ball not present. Opened the other and found it was the same way. Not sure whats right here, they both are supposed to be for a trooper or rodeo 4x4. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Its gonna get really cold soon and I am to old now for all that... Would like to get this over soon.
