Default 1986 Trooper turbo diesel RPM issue

Hi, I’m a new member and just bought this. I’m going thru it and getting it in good shape but I’m having a strange issue where it won’t go past 2300-2400 RPM’s. I did oil change, belts, air filter. 111k miles and engine sounds really good but just can’t get it to get past that 2300 to 2400 RPM’s. Any advice on where to start looking? It is the turbo Diesel engine. Thanks, Cy

Hi Cy. I have that Trooper and all rebuilt. Fuel would be first...getting enough. So make sure filters are clean. There is a filter under the intake line going into the pump. A little screen. Last place to look. Make sure fuel flowing at pump and each injector. Might be an injector not popping. Another idea is idle stop at the pump...make sure throttle has full range of motion. All I can think of at the moment. George

Also Hutch, there is a little screen under the intake side of the pressure pump and (for whatever reason!) on the exit side. Might be gummed or something. Be careful on banjo bolts...be nice.
