transmission

my transmission is slipping and sometimes will not engage in any gear. Am I
looking at a repair or a replacement. If I have to have it replaced how much
will it cost and is it worth it? My trooper is a 2001 with 95,000 miles on it

a replacement transmission can run anywhere from $800-$1800 depending on alot of factors. if you can install it yourself a low mileage used trans is the way to go. having yours rebuilt is a costly option usually running about $1400, at least in my area. it is probably less expensive to buy a used or rebuilt trans. i would only consider buying a low mileage used trans if it has less than 60,xxx miles. the second gen trooper trans was prone to going out around 100,xxx miles making replacements hard to find and expensive. its def worth replacing because the motor is still in its prime and you wont be able to replace the rig for what you can have yours fixed.

also looking at replacing
Next month I am driving down to Arizona to pick up my moms friends 2001 Trooper for $1500. It only has 123,000 miles on it but her transmission is shot. I guess she paid a shop about $1400 to have them fix her transmission but they shisted her and only filled it with thick tranny fluid to keep it going. It broke down on her way to AZ but managed to get there, the shop there said and showed her there were shards of metal in the tranny pan. They said new tranny is needed. Napa Riebes auto quoted a rebuilt one for $1400 i need to figure out how to do it for less than $800
