Overheat issue

Been having an overheating issue...replaced the thermostat...still happening....auto shop said it's the water pump now...any idea where to look for it....was thinking lower left(passenger side)....and if so...is it possible to do myself...and not have to shell out the $400.00 i was quoted.
any help would be highly appreciated.

btw...it's a 96 Rodeo v6...

JimC - I would recommend checking to see if the thermostat was installed correctly or getting another thermostat before I spent $400 on a water pump. You can install the water pump yourself, just takes time and some mechanical know-how. Oh yeah, and a good shop manual.
