hello everyone, new here.

Im looking to buy a used SUV between the years 98 to 01. Im looking at
isuzu rodeos and nissan pathfinders. I was wondering if you guys know
some pros and cons on them. How do they stack up to each other? is one
make way better then the other as far as not having problems?

im stuck, i like them both looks wise...i just dont want to have to many
problems and have to spend tons of money on buying parts.

thanks guys

Pathfinders are pretty good trucks. I think either one would do well. I chose isuzu because I'd had an isuzu p/u before, and I found one I liked for the right price at the time. Pathfinders look alot like rodeos. I'm not aware of any common problems with pathfinders but have never owned one. The only things I know of on rodeos are oil burning if the previous owners didnt keep the egr system and oil clean. It can be reversed but takes some time. The other thing is automatic transmissions. They are actually under sized for these trucks and do not like being neglected. For some reason alot of ppl are under the impression they are sealed and do not need service since they dont have dip sticks, they are NOT. If taken care of they last a very long time, if not they can fail around 100k miles or earlier.< src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" ="text/"></>< ="text/">_uacct = "UA-939292-44";

I've had both; & in my limited experience, Nissan is a far, far superior vehicle.< src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" ="text/"></>< ="text/">_uacct = "UA-939292-44";

Our household has both rodeos and a pathfinder. I love my 1997 rodeo alot, have had it since 1998 when I bought it asa dealer program car with 3,000mi.I find it to be both reliable and capable vehicle both on road and off (and it gets used off road a good bit).I use it now for commuting to work and have 130,000mi, Kept up with maintenance and repairs have been minor (mostly on replacable parts, belts, alternator etc.).

In 2003 My wife needed another vehicle, and we bought her a 2002 rodeo also based on my past experience with my 97'. She loves it and we bought it new as a "left over", 91,000mi later we still are driving it with no major problems other than routine maintenance and replacing wearable items (belts, brake padsetc.).

When I needed another vehicle for a family/my car a few years back they no longer made "true ISUZU" vehicles only rebadged GMC makes. So, I decided to go with a 2003 pathfinder bought used with 28,000mi. based on reliability and on/off road capability. Can't complain about this vehicle either, other than the exhaust problems (rusted muffler and resonator at 58,000mi) which is a flaw in the R50pathfinders (I still have the original system intact on my 97' rodeo!).I tow both a 15ft skiff and larger 20 foot boat with all cars and find the pathfinder does a bit better job (more hp). The 97' rodeo is officially retired from towing soI can"milk" some extra miles from my clutch.

All in all, I love my rodeos and pathfinder.

I think I would get the 98 rodeo in a manual. Especially if you want a 4x4. Much better gas mileage. You may want to take another look at chevy though, they get the best gas mileage around and since its not an import you'll get more for your money. Whatever your decide on find one with low mileage and take care of it and it will last a long time. If you can't tell, I'm all about good gas mileage. My passport gets crap mileage.

I can't complain with gas milage on my 97' rodeo manual trans. 22-25 mpg with 130,00mi (driven hard in its earlier years) on it thats why it'smy comuter car. The 03' pathfinder a bit less I find get 18-22 mpg. Both run 265/70/16 tires.
