I have a 1994 Trooper with exhaust leak from flexible joint in the front pipe. This is on the right side, second pipe coming from exhaust manifold. Can I just take out this flex piece and weld in a straight piece? Why is there a flexible piece there in the first place? If I can't just pipe it where can I buy a new piece? I have been looking all over and it seems that nobody has any parts from the cat forward.

Thanks

Hi, I don't see why you could not use a piece of flex pipe, although I would recommend using the stainless type rather than the aluminized steel. I recently had the same leak on mine, and I went to a junkyard and found a similar sized pipe/flex joint that I cut out of a wreck to use on mine. Seems like it was around a 2 inch diameter piece that I mig welded in.

Good luck.
