Coolant smell with heater on
#1
When I turn the temperature up on the air conditioner, I begin to smell coolant. After smelling the coolant, the temperature gauge on the dash going dangerously close to "H". Then, there sometimes is little puddle of water on the passenger's side floorboards. Does this mean it's time for a new heater core and thermostat? < src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" ="text/"></>< ="text/">_uacct = "UA-939292-44";

Sounds like you need a new heater core. If you do replace the thermostat, use an OEM...seems to be a good recommendation. I would think that the coolant loss is why the engine is running hot....not a good thing to play with, overheating a motor WILL cause problems! One guys opinion.
And yes, heater core change is a PITA!

I agree, they are a pain, and that is what you need to do. Stay up on your coolent. If your engine overheats you run the risk of blowing the engine. Get it fixed ASAP. Good luck.
