Alright here''s the deal, I want to put a bigger and better engine in my 88 Trooper 2 as well as a lift and bigger tires to prove everyone that has told me troopers can''t be beasts wrong!!! I found a 3.5L V-6 engine but i''m not sure if I can slap it in my trooper very easily without doing welding and cutting or if it will even fit. My trooper is an 1988 Isuzu Trooper 2 4banger, 5 speed manual transmission. (everything stock for the moment) If someone could help me out with info on this that would be awesome!!! By the way the engine is out of another isuzu.

I''m sure it will take some work, but should be worth it. In my opinion gearing is more important the engine size. You could also look into swapping it with a 4 banger disel. They were also in the oder troopers, so it might just drop in. Good luck and happy wheeling.

yeah but those are hard to come by in colorado but my whole trooper base might be changing cause I found a newer trooper that is in good condition that is way nice and would cut my work load on mine in half! so if I end up getting that ill have to see what that engine looks like cause if its the V6 trooper then that would give me a power boost for cheaper than a new engine cause im low on funds lol

Also does any1 know if a tranny off a 4cyl is the same as the one off a V6 just in case cause the new trooper I found needs a new tranny and Im not sure if it will cause as of now if I get it my messed up trooper has to go the the scrap yard within a week of me buying it so im just tearing it to pieces for parts before isend it off and my tranny is good

The trannies are different, and don''t match. I''ve heard that certain Toyota engines will fit the ''88 tranny, but I''m not sure. Trannies for ''92+ are readily available from Auto recyclers.

Default 1987 Trooper Engine Swap

Will a Toyota 4 cyl FI engine from a Tacoma fit in a 1997 Trooper with manual transmission? What all needs to be done to convert?

I'm doing an engine swap right now in my 94. Out with the 3.2 SOHC and in with a 3.1 intercooled turbo diesel. It's the perfect set-up for the mountains and diesel fuel is cheaper than regular gas here in Costa Rica. It might be a little tricky getting the tach to work but, I'll get through it.
