Default Cracked Head

I have a 1989 Trooper with the 2.6 engine. The head is cracked at cyls 2 and 3. Both valves were badly cracked in 2 and 3, with the exhaust in 1 also badly cracked. The sweetheart was still running and got me home to the high mountain country. Unbelievable. So, I guess I need a head. Where to find one? Evidently everyone shipped a few million toms of cars to China as scrap, including lots of goodies us old country boys could really use here.

Any ideas?

Default cylinder head

There's a shop in portland, oregon that I think still has them. I got one from them about a month ago. It's called something like "cylinder head repair" or something generic like that.

Default Head replacement

Not sure if 91 2.6 is the same but a remaned head for SOHC L4 is available at this address for about 350.00.

Hope this helps.

Default Alabama Cylinder Head

My 88' Trooper did the same thing. Cracked 2nd & 3rd exhaust valve seat on the head. I drove it about a hundread miles before I got the chance to pull the head. I got a brand new head with all new valves and seals for around $360 from Alabama Cylinder Heads. That was 6 years ago and my Trooper is still going strong. According to these guys they improved the head design. They also have just the head without the vlaves installed if you're on a budget. That and gasket kit for around $40 should put you back on the road.

88 - 91 used the same engine mounts and everything

my honest opinion, because your mounts will also fit a chevy engine, go for either a 4.3L vortec chevy engine, or a 305 engine if you got the money
