Hi I have a 98 trooper LS.

my 4x4 doesn't work -- i had it checked quickly and the mechanic mentioned that it could be the onboard computer.

does this make sense.

IT sucks that this issue is difficult to diagnose.what would you to get it diagnosed... bring it to the dealer?

any idea would be appreciated

Do you have the TOD system....I am not too familiar with the newer Troopers, I have a 94.

The TOD system has two sensors on the transfer case that monitor the front and rear prop speeds to tell t-case when to transfer power to the front.......

If you don't have TOD, then the front axle actuator may not be working, or getting a signal to lock the axle. Could be a vacuum problem, valve problem or combination.

What system do you have?

The TOD module is in the passenger area. I think it may be beneath the passenger seat. It is not a user serviceable item, but you could check to make sure the connector is plugged in properly.

I have heard the sensors are quite expensive to replace. I would make sure that if you have it checked out that whoever does it has experience with the Isuzu TOD .
