2001 trooper tranny woes

I'm a sucker for any trooper, had 4 of them now, and one that is the best vehicle I have ever had, a 94. Anyway I recently got ripped by small outoftown dealership on a 2001 limited. Bought it and it ran great, drove home(440 miles) and ran fine for several weeks. About 1500 miles after purchase the "check trans and check engine" lite came on. Had checkout with two shops and code said slipage happening. Fluid was burnt very badly , so had tranny serviced at local shop with new fluid and filter. They said there was some metal in the pan so I would probably be needing a rebuild in less than a year. Should I take this to the bank or is it possible the fluid change could fix the problems?

You don't say how many miles total on the tranny.
Regardless, based on what you have said, I would be very concerned about how many more miles you can get.....even with frequent fluid changes.
It is a 4L30E trans, used in a variety of cars and trucks. Late model (1992 and on that I am sure of....maybe some earlier) troopers, rodeos, etc used it.
One guys opinion.

Does that mean I can install an older model tranny, say a 98 trooper,
that would swap out with my 2001 tranny? Is there changes in the
computer controlls, cables, ect.?

Had transmission rebuilt late this past year, $2,500 w/labor . Has two year warranty parts and labor . Runs great, but probable would of gone with Jasper Engines brand transmission , with 3yr . warranty to match engine installed recently.
