2001 2.8L Fuel Economy
Hi All:
I have a 2001 Trooper with a 5 speed manual transmission, and a junk yard motor I installed and runs well with very limited oil usage. Tuned and timing set, changed O2 sensor, checked throttle body injectors, (fine mist when running). No check engine light, and nothing in history.
My problem is I can't get the fuel mileage over 17.5 mpg. Is this considered normal for this configuration? I don't run this vehicle hard, even on the freeways only go 65mph max.
One other point, I bought one of those ALDL cables and downloaded a free program to view the ECM, and don't see any red flags, (although I may certainly maybe missing or misunderstanding something).
I have searched the archives and could not find this discussion, sorry if I missed this.

If you are burning twice the fuel you should be I would think the oxygen sensor would read a very rich condition and turn on the check engine light. Are you sure you are not leaking the fuel? How are you calculating your fuel economy?
