Angry 2001 Rodeo SE. The smell of fuel at start-up, then goes away after several minutes

I have a 2001 RODEO SE with 3.2L V6 with 170,00mi. Over the last year or so, I have notice the smell of gas fumes when I first start engine after sitting overnight.
it entered cab when fan was on with selector set to outside air. The smell started off as very subtle. It had increased in intensity to become more worrisome as of late. Once I began noticing this I had inspected the fuel lines, the entire fuel rail especially around the injectors, and had even replaced the evap rubber lines to rule them out. I couldn't find an obvious leak. I never had an error code other than one due to a bad fuel level sending unit, the cause of inop fuel level guage(next project). Gas mileage has slipped slightly by a couple MPG, and there has been a couple times where it didn't quickly fire up as it usually had.
I narrowed it down to the fuel pressure regulator and I changed it yesterday. What a difference! It started easily and no fuel smell. Hope to get back some mileage too!
