2000 Trooper Auto to Manual Swap Questions
I am about to begin a swap taking out the Bad automatic trans and TOD from a 2000 Trooper and replacing it with a AR5 with the shift on the fly transfer case. I have a 2000 that other than the trans is in excellent condition and a 1998 Manual Trooper that needs alot of work chassis wise.
Before I started this post I did alot of reading of other swap posts and it seem straight forward. Pedal's, Clutch Master & Slave, The gearbox and drive train I believe should be straight forward. This is a father/son project.
I have spent quite a few hours researching this.
I have some questions that the veterans may be able to help me with.
1. I believe that I will need to get a 2000 Manual ECU, but I'm not sure if that ECU will stop the key from working due to it being a different VIN.(Imobilizer)
Or if I keep the current immobilizer box would it work with any ECU VIN?
Should I just get the original reflashed to change it from Auto to Manual. Who does the reflashing if that is an option?
I pretty sure the 1998 ECU in the other car will not work in the 2000 as the ECU's are quite different.
2. I believe that the wires that connect to the auto trans can be abandoned for the most part with the exception of the reverse light switch, The 4WD switch in the transfer case and the speed sensor. Is there any DIY's out there for this wiring?
3. I read that I will need to modify the rear fuel lines.(I May be able to use the ones off the 1998) not sure.
4. Is there any difference in the differential ratios of the Auto Trooper VS the Manual Should I be swapping the front and rear diff's also.
The mechanical part of this is much easier to understand that the electrical side for me.
I sure there are questions I have not asked. Any help or advice is appreciated.
Thanks
Bill

You might be better off trying to keep/adapt the 2000 auto ECM.
The diff gearing on an auto equipped truck is usually a little lower (numerically higher) than the same truck with a manual would be. That's a good thing because it would allow you to run a much taller tire and still maintain same power and MPG, which would otherwise suffer.
