Dealer noticed the belt on my 2000 Rodeo was frayed on one side. Replaced in November. Lucky I kept the old one as a spare. Shredded the new one after only 5k miles. Anyone have similar problem? What might be causing it to fray prematurely on one side?

 

Possibly a pulley out of alignment. Some ppl have had an issue where the rubber in the harmonic balancer wore out and allowed the crank pulley to move a bit causing belt alignment problems.
