Rodeo doesn't start
Hey all, just got a 1996 Rodeo with the V6 and Auto transmission. I have really enjoyed it so far, but this morning went out to go to work and could not get it to start. It ran fine yesterday, but this morning doesn't even turn over. I thought it might have been the battery so I tried jumping it, and got nowhere, the battery has good voltage on its own. When I turn the key, I can hear the fuel pump pressure up, and there is a "click" as if a relay is working under the dash (on the passenger side, I think), but other than that, nothing. Any ideas?
Testing and Inspection Complete each test within three to five seconds. If time limit is exceeded, possible damage to the starter solenoid may result.
PULL-IN TEST:

PULL-IN TEST:
- Connect the battery negative terminal with the solenoid switch body and the C terminal. When current is applied to the terminal as shown in Fig. 5 from the battery positive terminal, the pinion should flutter.
- Disconnect the lead at the C terminal as shown in Fig. 6. The pinion should continue to flutter.
- Connect the battery ground terminal to the 50 terminal and the body as shown in Fig. 7.
- Connect the battery positive terminal to the C terminal. The pinion will flutter.
- When the lead to the 50 terminal is disconnected, the pinion should immediately return to its stationary position.
- If the pinion does not operate as specified, repair or replace starter motor as necessary.
Update: took the starter off this morning and had it checked at a local auto parts store. It is indeed bad. Before I pay $130 for a refurbished one I am going to run mine by a shop that rebuilds them to see what the cost is.
Also while under there, I discovered an oil leak at the rear main. . . Not too bad, but still irritating.
