Question

V6 I take it?

How many miles on it?

How offen with oil changes? What does the oil look like? Metal / metallic floating in it?

Have you change the timing belt & guides yet?

I have a 98 1/2 with 200k on it and the ticking is there after about 500 miles after a oil change, I have been told that the valves need adjustment. Mine isn't too loud and only really hear it if your outside or the windows are down while driving. so i don't really worry about it.

I use 5 w 30 during the winter and 10 w 30 summer, It gets really hot during the summer. I heard that 15w 40 would make the sound worst, I haven't tried that yet though. I was using systhic but don't find any real advantage with these engines so i buy the highest quality convention for the money I hope. Mobol 1 5000 works well for me and drans light brown after a 3000 mile oil change.

201500 miles on truck

yup our 97 ticks - sometimes.

Fire it up - ticks - count to 5 and it stops. Lifter for sure. Problem ? nope.

If it ticks longer check oil level.

One trick I've heard is to fill it with 5W mystery oil. Run it for 30 seconds and drain. Repeat 2 or 3 times. I've been told that'll flush all sorts of crud out.
