Default '99 Rodeo LSE Automatic Trans buzzing

Hi all,

I'm new here and I need some advice.

My '99 Rodeo LSE 2WD has been a great truck all these years.
I only have 116K miles on it and have taken really good care of it.
Unfortunately, there is a buzz or whine sound in the transmission when the RPM goes above 2000 to 2500 RPM. If everything is warm and I stop and get out (like a quick trip to the drug store) the noise isn't so bad afterwards. Weird! This has been going on for quite a while now with no effect on performance until today. It seems to have a little hesitation at shifting as in the RPM will surge a bit.

A mechanic listened to it and since he could hear it when in Park or Neutral he ruled out the Planetary gears. He believes it's in the power converter pump...like a hairline crack or something.

Anyway, has anyone had this issue and if so what was the fix?

Can this be repaired or will a rebuilt transmission be the answer?

Thanks in advance for your help...

Vince

Trans failed on a family trip to fla. Got it rebuilt. Torque converter was bad. Pump was ok. I had the fluid replaced back at eighty thousand but I should have cleaned it more often. Only towed once with it. Might have been city driving....
