i have a 96 rodeo V6/3.2L SOHC, i have the " tick" which i believe is the lifter valves, but yesterday all of a sudden it started making a metallic grinding sound..(not a rod).., and started idling rough and eventually stalling, (starts right back up), and lots of white smoke out the exhaust when i start...i noticed the fuel filter was pretty old looking, i changed that(clogged) and my air filter and fixed a couple air lines that looked cracked..well, the noise went away and seemed to be running good until it warmed up, and stalled on me again..not seeing the smoke anymore though..a buddy of mine(backyard mechanic) said it sounds like the "knock sensor", i've never heard of it and dont want to tear it apart if its not that..my check engine light came on and it blinking(says cylinder 5 misfire)..im thinking it may be worth checking EGR valve..anyone had this problems? with a bad EGR valve or the knock sensor? anyone, any tips or knowledge of it would be deeply appreciated..thanks
