I get a knock or clunk noise from the rear of my 1997 rodeo on turns.

It only clunks once on each turn, but annoying. I have checked all the leaf spring connections and body mounts are tight?

any ideas?

I assume you have checked the stowage compartments for loose items i.e jack, hitch ball..and the spare tire is tight (if its underneath). The only other thing I can think of would be one of the torsion bars that run from front to rear is loose allowing some slop when you put the vehicle in a bind by turning.

Sounds like possibly front strut mounts or front end components wearing. To check front struts open hood place hand on strut mount above coil spring location and jounce vehicle with knee, there shouldn''t be any play there To check the front end components if it has torsion bar setup you need to put a jack under lower control arms and lift thus unloading the ball joints so they can be checked along with tie rods. If this sounds to difficult just take it to local shop and ask for front end inspection and check strut mounts.

Also check your Carrier Bearing on the driveshaft That was my problem with my 91 same kind of noise.

Have a look at the bushings at the rear of the leaf springs near the bumper.

Mine clunks as well and it apparently is wear that is corrected by replacing
the bushings.Edited by: Florsuzu
