Default Intermittent charging problem on '95 Rodeo

My '95 Rodeo occasionally fails to charge. When this is happening, dash lights for battery, fuel and brake come on, and the voltage gauge drops below 12. I took the alternator off and had it tested, and it was fine. The battery tested good as well. I put it all back together and it was fine for several days. Then today the gauge and lights briefly indicated it wasn't charging just for about a minute and then everything went back to normal. I have to fix it because it already left me stranded once and I don't want it to happen again. Any ideas?

I had this problem, if your lucky it's the charger since you can get new ones off eBay. If you're unlucky it's the laptop, apparently the charger goes straight into the main motherboard so when it breaks, it's very hard to fix.

I replaced my alternator and did not fix the problem...

It turns out that the wiring to the plug in the alternator had the wires insulation cracking and pealing...

It was not obvious it was shorting out, because this was inside the black plastic protective flexible tubing...

I fix the problem by wrapping electrical tape to each wire from end to end... So far no more issues!!!

Good luck! Luis
