"88 Trooper flooding

My 88 Trooper with 2.6, I-TEC fuel inj. Auto, 4X4, floods it's butt off when first cranked. It coughs and smokes and backfires and sounds like it's running on 2 cylinders..........all this for 5 or 6 minutes, then it clears up and runs perfect (until next cranking). HELP! J. R. Green
