My son has a 99 Amigo 2wd 2.2L about
4 months ago it began running extremely rough he had codes scan done at
Autozone. Codes stored were EGR valve, and Camshaft Position Sensor. He
purchased the camshaft position sensor and I helped him install it and reset the
ECM. The truck started and ran like new, (we did not do any relearn procedure).
His check engine light came back on after about a week but he ignored it
assumeing it was the EGR code since the truck ran fine. The other day it started
missing and once again he went to the local Autozone and had the codes scanned
this time it had stored EGR and misfire cylinder #3. he figured that it needed a
tune up so he bought new plugs (Bosch Platinum) and new wires (Duralast) as well
as a new EGR valve. I helped him install all and reset the ECM unfortunately
upon startup the miss was still there. I thought about replacing the coilpak but
have read several posts where people did that and still had a miss. The old
plugs were oem and looked really good for their age, color was light tan on all
with no obvious signs of problems, anybody have any suggestions how to
troubleshoot the problem? I hate to just blindly throw parts at the thing hoping
to replace the right one. If I knew where to look or how to troubleshoot the
problem with a multimeter maybe I could narrow it down. Any advise or
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.</span></font>

Update: I went out to move it this afternoon and when I started it up the miss was there as before. I gave it a few WOT Revs up to about 4k RPM and it seemed to smooth out so I took it for a drive and it ran perfect. I really pushed it floor boarding it and winding it out between shifts. I drove it this way for about 10 miles and it never skipped a beat so I phoned my son and asked him if he ever opened it up and he said that he usually doesn''t get it over 2500 RPM. I told him that I held it to the floor and red lined between shifts until I hit 85MPH and he said that he had never had it to 85 since he had it (about 3 years). so I''m wondering if the miss could have been caused by carbon???[img]smileys/smiley6.gif[/img]

 

I had the same problem after changing out the head gasket and the Haynes Manual that I had calls the cylinders 1,2,3,4 from fron to back


and the the coil pack 4,1,3,2 well after about 3 days of fighting and rechecking everything and was reading a misfire on #3 cylinder,I took it to a shop and the checked the compression and the plugs and noticed that the plugs wires were hooked up wrong


now I did have them hooked up right according to the manual but the manual is WRONG the cylinders are 4,1,2,3 the coil pack is right


now that was a big pain int the a$$ and now I have a set of injectors and a EGR valve and a whole nother wiring harness so if anyone needs some parts just let me know
