Timing Belt

The trooper is still refusing to fire up and run after having received a new fuel pump. I have fuel to the engine and I have fire. When I crank it over it kind of wants to hesitate (crank slowly) then resume turning over at a normal rate. This is indicative of timing issue to me.
I will likely change the belt now in an effort to get it on the road again soon.
I am stranded in Portland from my home in alaska and badly need to have my trooper going ASAP.
Anyone ever changed the belt on their trooper?
I have changed the water pump which involves removing the chain cover exposing it but have never had to change the belt yet. Hoping to get some advise. Thanks. Bob

If you send me your email I will send you a link to a PDF for the 3.2 Liter SOHC and DOHC belt change that I have on changing a timing belt. I am at atfdmike@yahoo.com.
Are you assuming that the timing belt jumped a tooth or something? I am sure that if you are just changing the belt to change the belt, then you are not going to see any difference. Remember that regardless of which motor, set the timing marks to their respective timing spots BEFORE removing the old belt. Of course, this is assuming that the belt is still on .

on my trooper i had a similar problem and it was caused by 2 sparkplug wires crossed. i rebuilt my engine this year and was very tired the last day, spaced and crossed them up. the motor will still start if the timing is off itll just run rough. check the wires and make sure the firing order is correct.
