Remote Locking
Hi, My son has a 95 trooper which wiil open on the fob but not lock.We have taken off the driver's side control unit from the door and spray cleaned any bits that were electrical but no joy. We have checked all fuses which are OK. Has anybody any ideas? The Trooper is quite old and well used but there must be a simple solution.
Many thanks Yozza.

You didn't mention if it was a factory installation or aftermarket. I know that most of the aftermarket units are programable to do such things as automatically lock the doors after 30 seconds among other features. If it's a factory install then it's pushing 30 years old and probably could be replaced for a much newer and more modern unit for not too much money.

The vast majority of alarm systems have the control unit installed under the dash where it is convenient to the wire harness. You can tackle it yourself but, you won't really be saving much money and, likely end up with a backache from contorting yourself trying to get under the dash. I would recommend turning this job over to a professional installer. Usually those shops specialize in window tint, stereo installations and, auto accessories. They know from experience which wires to tap into to access the door locks and the ignition system. I have a 94 Trooper and had an Eagle brand system installed for under 100 dollars but, that was here in Costa Rica. Viper is a decent brand.
