Hi, I have a 99 trooper 3.5 with auto tranny. I can buy this for 500.00 but there are some issues. The main issue is the trans, my brother tells me it was stuck in 1st gear. He had on the lift and he said it would change through all the gears but when its on the ground nothing.

He replaced 1 valve body, not sure which one. I am thinking of buying from him for what he paid, he was planning on junking it. He said when he open the case the fluid was black.

What my question is.

What would my best plan of attack would be to resolve the issue? I have lifts and a full shop at my disposal. He hasn't done a pressure check on it, but he says has the equipment to do.

Im not in a rush to drive the truck, my lease on my current car is not up for another 6 months or so. But, I would like to start working on her as soon as I can.

Looks like you need a new transmission. When the fluid turns black that mean the transmission bands have burnt up. Its toast.
