Looking at a 1999 and a 2001
Hi, I'm a total newbie here; but I'm looking for some information. I am looking to buy a decent used SUV while I have to go up north to work. I've narrowed my choices down to a Jeep Grand Cherokee, a Mitsu Montero Sport, or the Trooper.
I've found, online, a decent looking 4wd 1999 and a 2wd 2001. The 99 has 113K miles and the 2001 has about 123K.
I'm really concerned with what I've read about pre-2001 engines and their rather high desire for oil. Is it true the 2001 engines were redesigned to address this issue?
How about the transmission and that running gear?
Am I about to get sunk in a money pit? What do I need to look for?
Finally, I if the vehicle turns out good; is it possible to use the Trooper to tow a 2700 lb race car?
Many thanks in advance.
