Default Instrument Panel lights out

I have just owned my 2000 Isuzu Trooper for about 2 months. While I am new to this forum, I have been using forums to pinpoint frequent problems for many years. Hopefully, I can describe my problem and someone will recognize it and tell me how they have fixed a similiar problem. Here goes.....

The lights in my instrument cluster that are there to illiminate the speedometer, gas, etc. do not work. However, the warning lights, i.e. check engine, us, low fuel, etc. will illuminate. I have pulled the instrument cluster and examined the actual light bulbs and they look fine. I have chedked all of the fuses, both under the hood and in the side panel. I do not think that there are other lights that are inoperative. Does anyone have any thoughts?
