I'm working to a 94 trooper and need to replace the oil pan gasket. But I don't know if you can remove it with engine in still. If so can someone tell me how.

< src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" =text/> </>Hi, If you are referring to a 94 Trooper with the 3.2 engine, then to drop the oil pan you have to remove the steering linkages, drop the Front Axle carefully until it rests on the lower control arms (two fasteners each side hold it up) and then remove starter (move it forward, as the hole it goes through in the flywheel shield goes completely around the starter nose which is the only reason to remove it) andflywheel splash shield (to access rear oil pan bolts). There is an oil manifold at the front of the engine that has to come off to get enough room to slide the pan out and allow access to the oil pan bolts too. Then you have to remove the cast stiffener attached on the pass side of block to get to the flywheel cover bolts on that side.It is tricky getting to the socket head bolts hidden by the bulge on the oil pan, but can be done. I did this to change my oil pump. Mine did not have a gasket on it, although when I bought the oil pump kit it came with a gasket for the oil pan. I opted to stay with the OEM RTV that was on it. The RTV they used on my oil pan was difficult to pry the oil pan from the block. I ended up making two tools to do it from a couple of putty knives. I bent one into a right angle so I could tap it through the RTV and then tap it around the acessible areas of the pan to break it loose. After that, it was not too bad to get it out. Just be careful when removing the pan that you don't bend the oil pickup tube from the pump.

I didn't have to remove the engine mount bolts, although I have heard it makes the job easier if you remove them and lift the engine and shim it up temporarily.

Good luck. Took me a couple days working on it, but a lot was cleaning up parts before reinstalling.

Hope this helps. < =text/> _uacct = "UA-939292-44"; urchinTracker(); </>
