Default First Generation Trooper parts and tech support

*** Please note: Due to the excessive commercial nature and unregulated spamming on this forum I will typically not be checking this thread or any other thread on here. If you want help with your Trooper I'm glad to offer it, but you'll need to contact me by email, on Facebook, Youtube or by telephone. Thanks******
I've collected a couple acres of first generation Troopers for spare parts due to the fact that I am located in a remote part of the Ozark Mountains 8 miles off pavement, an hour to the nearest stop light and am unable to find a Trooper in a salvage yard within a few hundred miles. I do have a couple pickups and a couple Rodeos but only work with 2.3/2.6 and 2.8/3.1 stuff. I'm more than happy to answer any questions, help if your Trooper isn't running right, help you find the parts you need or mail you one from my private collection, whatever it takes to keep that first gen on the road. Check out my Faceboook page for day to day tid-bits of Trooper info or my youtube page for instructional videos as well as Ozark mountain off-road Trooper adventures. Posting on this thread is not the best way to contact me as I do not get a chance to always check this board, my personal contact info, phone number, etc is listed on my facebook page if you need immediate help.

Idle going up an down is usually caused by the thermal vacuum valve which is screwed into the thermostat housing and has the 3 larger vacuum lines coming out of it. You are either low on coolant or the truck is running hot. It's designed to raise the idle to improve cooling. They typically start doing that when you have a coolant leak or blown head gasket/cracked head. I don't have any manual hubs, sorry.

Default Carpet

Hi,
Not sure if you have seen my post, but I was wondering if the front carpet out of a LWB will fit the front of a SWB?

The problem is that the 2 door models up to '87 had a different transmission configuration around the shifters, etc and they didn't make the 2 door after '87 except the RS... I would think you could order a carpet for the LWB '88 - '91 and get it to fit. You may have to do some trimming.

Hey there, I hope you can help me, I have a 88 trooper and my gears grind and slip out. My 4th gear grinds really bad that I can't really drive it anymore and I got a new born so I need it to drive around. I just changed the clutch and all bearings and bushings. I don't know what else to do?

Sounds like it's time for a new transmission. It's VERY uncommon for these transmissions to go bad, how many miles do you have on it? Have you pulled the shift lever out to make sure that there's nothing bent or burred up inside?

I'm not exactly sure how much but the meter reads 220k.
I opened the transfer case cause my 4x4 got stuck so I fixed it and everything looked good inside there. I didn't open the tranny though but I did take off the shift lever and I couldn't really see much in there

Well, unfortunately I don't think there's going to be a "quick fix" for that thing, I think you'll need to overhaul it or replace it.
