basically what is happening is the voltage meter on the dash was maxing out, but only when i hit the gas. at the same time a few lights on the dash would come on. as soon as i let off the gas everything went back to normal. i decided to take the negative battery cable loose and rev up the engine to do so and the ECM burned out. i went and got the alternator tested and the guys at the part store said it was good, however i dont think they tested it properly. i went and bought a used ecm out of a salvage yard and installed it. it did the same exact thing and burned out as soon as i disconnected the battery cable. this is the 3rd alternator in 6 months that i bought from advance auto parts. can anyone help stear me in the right direction?
