All the other electrical seems OK, but the gas meter light is on when the meter reads it is full, and the meter itself will bounce around from full to empty. Does not seem to matter if it was just started, or going up a hill or down a hill, just totally random. Any ideas where to start? Ordered auto guide just now

You have a fuel sender problem, if you have a 98 model you will need to take it to the dealer and have the pcm reprogrammed

Dealer will not reprogram PCM. I've tried a fuel additive, but it sounds like i'll need to replace the fuel sender.

Replaced fuel sender using Awnicol25 or something like that from ebay. $35 dollars and used link below for instructions to replace. By the Haynes manual it looks like the sender is at the back of the gas tank, but it is actually on the top and a bitch to get to. Like the article says, only problem was lowering the tank. May be good advice to get a mask, I think i killed about a billion brain cells huffing gas fumes for a half hour. to each their own
