Default A/C Compressor Whining

Crap i posted this yesterday and i guess i didnt submit....DOH!!!
I just put refrigerant in my 87 Trooper II the other day. (First time since i bought it) It got cool but the compressor started to whine. Is this a normal thing? I do know i need to put another small can in but this noise concerned me.
Thanks.
Ok now must make sure to hit the submit button.

Hi,
I thought I would share this as my AC clutch started grinding it self up recently on my 2000 trooper I was looking at $300/$400? to fix it, I live in Maine so I only need AC 2 days a year so I put a short belt on it. Because I'm new and can't do a picture from a URL( I don't have one) I'll explain. It was $40 for a Gates w/out air belt #K060802 it's 80.75" long and went right on bypassing the AC. Of coarse I will not have AC, hey I'm ok with that it was 21 deg this morning.

Compressor bearing may be the culprit or the tensioner bearing.
