I purchased a 96 Trooper yesterday and the seller did not have the owner's manual. He said that I could only shift into 4 Wheel Drive at certain speeds. I've looked all over the internet for information on this, but haven't had any luck. Can anyone tell me the following things?

What is the exceptable speed range to shift into and out of 4 Wheel Drive?

What is the proper proceedure for shifting into 4 Low?

My last SUV, was all electronic shift on the fly. So, this vehicle is little different for me.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if the 96 is different from my 94, but I myself don't engage/disengage 4wd past 10mph. Sometimes it doesn't disengauge right away...not sure if thats ok or not.

as for 4 low, the only times i've used it was when I was REALLY stuck and stopped. lol.

I don't plan on using 4 Low, but incase I do, I can just shift on the fly? In some vehicles, you have to be parked to access 4 low. frank shifts into 4 hi around 10 mph. Does anyone have a manual to see what Isuzu suggests?

I should have stated, i've always shifted into 4wd, with the truck in neutral. ...rolling at under 10mph

I own a 96 Trooper since 2000. When my 4x4 was working I can shift on fly basically any time the vehicle is moving (so I'd say > 5 mph). At least it worked this way for 4 1/2 years.

In late 2004 my front wheels slipped on a up-hill ramp (because had a 4500lb boat at my back) while engaged in 4L; since then, Istarted to have shift on fly problem,. The engage functioncompletely failedin summer 2005.

I then had difficulty to get the exact VSV (Vacuum Solenoid Valve)for replacement (no Isuzu dealers in Canada anymore). Finally,I replacedit with a Toyota Supra VSV (withminor wiring);since then, I can only shift to4H or 4Linneutral/parking and stopped position.

BTW found a ebay store today telling me he can order a parts for 120+s/h; however, not sure if it has the same specs.

Hope ithelps
