I have a 94 Troop w 158k
I have owned it 5 years and I only drive it 7k a year... I wish to keep it many years more.
Inside and out it is in great condition but while it drives like new....It has left me broken down beside the road a few times...
What info I’m looking for is what items could you all suggest I replace to bring it mechanically back to almost new? I am willing to spend real $$ as I am comparing this to buying a 4-6 year old SUV which would cost me $10k plus anyway...so I’m up for spending a few grand...
Here is what I have replaced in the last 25k miles.....what I asking for is a list of items I have not done yet...that you guys think are likely to fail on me during the next 50k ??
OK...here is my list of itemswhich arealready new or nearly so far .... * = denotes done a PM

-new time belt *
-new hoses *
-new water pump *
-new alternator

Hi, It sounds to me like you have the major stuff covered well. When you had the belt replaced, did you also replace the pusher or hydraulic tensioner? That is known to go bad after time, and generally is changed when the belt is done. If not, if you hear unusual tapping at or below 2500 RPM, it is usually the source. To change it now would mean a new belt too though, as the factory recommends the used belt bereplaced whenever it is removed from the engine.
If you are not having problems with the radiator and the fins look OK, particularly near the bottom, I don't know that I would change it. The thermostat should only be OEM Isuzu....too many horror stories about aftermarket thermsostats and the problems with them to risk it. An alternative may be to renew the antifreeze with fresh.
Spark wire set, same story, seems like OEM is the most reliable and trouble free way to go.
Fuel tank/fuel pump. Well, that is a judgement call, as some pumps have failed by your mileage, while I have seen others go over 200,000.
My opinion is that if you have money to burn, then you could do the items you list, but I am not sure what you gain. Using a synthetic oil and changing the fluids in the T case and rear ends is also worth considering. Brake pads and pins are also not mentioned but may be needed as well.
One guys opinion. Good luck
