i have a 94 trooper that has a noise coming from the right front wheel/axle while in 4 wheel drive. these are auto locking. the sound sounds like a bad through out bearing but a lot louder; it also has a vibrational rotating feel coming through the floor. the sound is not present in two wheel drive. it is intermittent and inconsistent. i just purchased the vehicle and was told of the noise when i looked at it;but the noise was not present when i inspected the vehicle. any experience with something like this? thanks

might be that you just need to re-grease the hubs. mine used to make crazy clicking noises, so i took it apart one day and noticed that the grease had turned into a wax of sorts. i cleaned them up and re-greased them and ever since have had no problems.

yes i had considered that, but it just has been too cold here in colorado to get involved with it. so i havent even looked at them yet. its not the standard clicking sound as most hear. its more of a rubbing sound.
