Wondering if anyone has any information to help me. I did a quick search but didnt see anything. I have an 02 trooper with manual transmission. I have a rod knock starting and would really like to do a diesel swap. Can anyone tell me what parts I need to gather for this or if it is even something feasible. Is there a diesel that will work with that transmission? Will I need to swap ecu? My son is taking over the rig and I wanna do this for him if I can. I have a diesel swapped samurai and he loves it. Any help would be appreciated.

 

I did this swap a couple of years ago in a 94 Trooper. The motor you will need is the 3.1 liter 4JG2 turbo. I could not use same transmission that came off the V6 gas motor. The diesel was not very popular in the US but is readily available from Canadian junk yards or JDM might be your best bet. Occasionally JDM will sell them with the tranny included. There is currently one available on Ebay. Do a search for 4JG2T. It's a great motor for the trooper. You won't win any drag races but it's great power for towing a boat trailer or 4 wheeling.
