, I am looking to purchase a 2002 trooper. It is a 3.5 V6 4 x 4. I’m trying to get some information on the availability of parts and where I would have the vehicle serviced. I’ve heard that they use Chevy transmissions but I cannot find out much about parts or service. If anyone has any info they would care to share it would be greatly appreciated. This is a super clean trooper with 80,000 very documented miles but I do not want to get into something that I cannot find parts or anywhere to service it. I read reviews on the reliability and it seems like a solid vehicle. I’m just purchasing this as an extra car to tow a small skiff with.

 

Yes it's a GM transmission.
Common replacement parts are available, but some are difficult to impossible to get. If the fuel pump assy mounted on top of the tank rusts out, your'e screwed. Same for the tank. Some of the emissions system parts too.

Other than that it's a great truck. Tons of room inside.
