Default 2000 Trooper misfires and backfires when cold

I have 2000 Trooper that when it's cold or when I first started it in the morning, it starts immediately and runs perfectly for about 10 or 15 seconds. Then the engine stumbles, misfires and sometimes even dies for about 20 or 30 seconds. During that time you can often hear backfiring through the intake and smell the extremely rich fuel mixture coming from the exhaust. Also for some time now, my check engine light has been on indicating that I have bad catalytic converters. This will be the third set of catalytic converters and oxygen sensors, all four of them, but I have installed his vehicle. But after about the first two or three years of owning it just seems to run rich. I have just installed a new map sensor and I have ordered a new EGR valve. Any other ideas?

I've replaced 1 O2 sensor in 10 years, you've done all 4 twice ?
And converters too?

I just replaced my muffler and tailpipe yesterday, and saw that aftermarket converters are $600+ each.
