Default 1990 Trooper grinding noise.

Hey folks, so there's been a pretty annoying sound coming from the rear of my truck as of lately. When it began, I thought it was the throw out bearing, as I would only hear noise when shifting. However, it now makes the sound upon shifting, while stopping from a high speed, and while idling. It has also progressed from a quit grind to a VERY LOUD, ANNOYING, AND EMBARRASSING quick-vibrating metal-to-metal sound. I removed the heat plate over the muffler and it didn't change. Could it just be my exhaust pipes rattling around, or something worse? Again, the sound is coming from the rear of the vehicle, not from the clutch or transfer case or anything... Has anyone experienced this? How was it resolved?

Thanks!

Possibly your rear end. Have you checked if theres oil in it? If there excess chunks of metal that means you have an issue. You will have small metal shavings on the plug thats normal
