I have and '86 with a C223T and I'm trying to verify whether it has the upgraded shortblock and any more info about that swap. It has 325k so I'm guessing if the original version had such problems that they redesigned and replaced them this must be the upgraded version. But any info about how and why this went down or how to find out would be helpful.

I am surprised no one answered this. There is a condensate tank on passenger side near firewall for third gen rod block warrantee upgrades.
