Poor Acceleration
1997 V6 2WD, 225,000 miles, 30,000 miles on timing belt.
Very sluggish acceleration, especially when the AC is on. To run at highway speed I need to have it in "Power Mode". New Denso Plugs, new air filter, no trouble codes and no check engine light on. Went from 16MPG down to 13. This has me stumped.

Hey Ken-
I've got the same problem with my 2006. I've got about 235K, and around 40 miles on the timing belt... I'll be interested to hear what someone has to say about it. I tried changing the fuel filter (super easy) but that wasn't it. then went through the rest of the other "usual" things but no difference...

1. Valve cover leaks around the spark plug wells caused the rubber on the plug extensions (comming off the coil pack) to allow shorting. new gaskets and 4 new coil packs fixed that part.
2. The keyway on the harmonic balancer sheared and the balancer began to drift. This effects the timming and eventually it just died. All in all, $2000.00 or do fixed it and it runs good now.
