my gas gage does not operate. it shows empty even when the tank is full. can anyone help me PLEASE?

I can't wait for an answer. I have the same problem with my 1999 Rodeo. I have to use the trip odometer to see when to fill up again.

 

It sounds to me like it's the fuel-gauge sending unit. Unfortunately you will have to drop the tank to get to it. Not hard to replace once the tank is dropped.

 

Agreed. You'll have to drop the tank and replace the sending unit. Time consuming but not hard. Could be the gauge itself, but that's doubtful.

 

I have a 2001 Rodeo that intermittently shows a low tank when it is over half full.

I did a little research and the Fuel Sending Unit seems to be a common
problem. I spoke with the Isuzu Owner's Relation department, and they
said that this is covered under the 10 year power train warranty that
some of the older models came with.

 

The fuel sending unit is not covered by the power train waranty. It is an easy task to drop the four bolts hold it up then lower it slowly to remove the hoses and filler neck. The sending unit is available at the dealer for under 50 dollars. It took me 5 hours the first time I replaced my sending unit (hand tools + first time + weakling helping you = arguments and slow progress) The second time I replaced the fuel sending unit on different rodeo it took me 45 min.

 

Yes it is covered under the powertrain warrenty. Getting the dealer to honor that though is another story. I know several ppl online that have gotten theirs done under warrenty after getting the service manager to call isuzu corporate offices. Others havent had as much luck getting them to do it.

 

I called Isuzu Corp about the problem in 2002 when it first started on my 99 rodeo 4cyl which had just gone out of the 3 yr 30k warrenty by 500 mi. They told me that this was a "routine" maint issue and that I was responsible for paying the 500 to replace the pump at the dealer. I repeatedly called Isuzu motor corp to complain about the fuel pump issue with not only mine but 5 out of the 6 other isuzus i knew of with the problem that is when they finally told me thatI did not have to replace the pump just the sending unit and that I would have to ask the parts department for the sending unit for a 98 rodeo. Many parts specialists do not know that you can get the sending unit seperate for the 99 models because of the way the system is set up.
