Default Emergency

My check 4x4 light is on, and 4x4 isn't working. I was told I needed a "4x4 control unit". I's a little black box. I purchased from a "you pull it" auto salvage place to save some green. On the box it has "Transfer case control mod" written on it.
I need to know where this part goes. I've heard that it is in the center console, but I'm afraid to tear into that if that isn't where it goes.
I need to fix IMMEDIATELY!
My wife is 39 weeks pregnant and could go into labor at any time, and it's snowing like crazy outside.

Well, wife didn't go into labor, but I'm still at a loss as to where this thing is located.
I guess I'm going to open up the console.

From what I have found you are correct. It is towards the front of the console.
I don't have the push button set up or I would tear mine apart and look.

Found this might try it. It re sets the control module. Apparently yours might not actually be bad. To reset under the seat sounds like a real pain.

Switch off the engine. Put in neutral and take your foot off the clutch pedal. Switch on the ignition, but don't start the car. Now Push and hold in all three buttons for at least a minute. The Japs say this does the same as bridging the plug under the seat. So next time, try it and give us feedback

Hope this helps.

it's a 2003, Automatic.
I don't have a push button 4x4, its more of a dial that you turn between 2WD, 4L ad 4H.
However, I did as you mentioned and pushed in the dial (you have to push it in and turn to switch between 4H and 4L) and held it for a good 3 minutes.
No dice.
I did, however, find the location of the control box.
I'm going to try and take some pictures and post up a "How to" for posterity.
