Default filling gas tank

new to me 2001 Rodeo.
when I go to fill the tank with gas, the gas pump cuts off after
10-20 cents. takes a LONG time to fill.
it isn't that the gas nozzle is in too far..or not far enough
even mechanic had problems putting gas in gas tank.
he cleaned out the vent..thinking it was full of mud or something
but that didn't help.
any advice as to where to look next??
TIA.

Had this problem on my Nissan Z, Here's what fixed it for me...
Just pull the nozzle OUT about an inch before starting to fill and lock it on about 3/4 flow
(not full flow on pump nozzle) Hope this works for you!
