Default ac compressor not kicking on in real hot weather

I have a 97 Isuzu Rodeo f 2.6 5 speed manual transmission, new radiator and the problem is AC is very cold year round except in Arizona when it reaches 100 + temperature the compressor kicks on and off as usual but sometimes does not kick back on. I brought it in to a shop who says its either one of two things, and ambient temperature sensor or an AC Thermal switch....I can't find either one at a parts store, but the repair facility swears that when he puts the symptoms in his computer other people have the same issue and that is the part listed above. everything checked out fine on the pressure test and there is plenty of freon in the system hoping somebody has the same issues and can help me thank you.
