Hello I am new to the board and i Have a 2001 4x4 Rodeo and the ABS light just came on. Is there a way to see what is causing the problem. I have scaned the car with a OBDII scanner but there are no code. so i figured there is a new way to scan for ABS codes

thanks for the help Mike.

I too and very interested.
I have the exact same issue.
I do know that once that light comes on the entire ABS system is out.
I decided to test it one day and the neighbors where not happy about the screeching tires.
Anyway 90% of the time my ABS is fine.
I have noticed however that the light tends to come on more when it has rained or is raining.

Thanks x2 for the help. Eddie

Follow the wires from the rear abs sensor (on top of the rear differential) up the drivers side upper link. Where it connects to the main wire harness the wires are probably broken. Its a pretty common problem on 2nd gen rodeos.

Thanks Gizmo.
I left the truck at my dads for since he needs it while his new truck is in for service.
I will check when I get it back next week.

I do have this same problem with my 1992 Rodeo. There is also a hauling sound from the rear tires that comes and goes. My mechanic runned what I call the orange cable test and there is a valve just mid way the chassis on the passeger side, its called a hydralic unit, that need to be changed...but it is expensive. Also the brake pedal was feeling a bit weird...so I bleed the brakes and is feeling much better now.

For those wondering what is the orange cable test...there is a harness in the driver side front kick panel with an orange cable in it. I do not remember if you ground or power this cable but, if the ABS light is on in the dash panel,it will make it blink a number of times. Depending on how many times it blinks, you can make up whats wrong with the system. It's like a code system without an OBD reader.Hope this can help anyone having this same trouble.
